Super Convenient and SleekNovember 2, 2008 The Logitech Alto Cordless Notebook stand works very well. Bought it for my husband who is anxious to get rid of his desktop and use his laptop on a regular basis--but having "man hands" the keyboard on the laptop can be difficult He writes for a living so he needs to be comfortable.
The stand is a perfect setup for him, his new Dell fits it perfectly. The keyboard is very nice. The keys are silent and have a good feel to them.
I would highly recommend this product.
Mostly good with a little badNovember 2, 2008 When I first got this product Logitech Alto Cordless Notebook Stand I thought it was a little expensive for the features it added. USB ports / Stands / and a lot of wireless keyboards are fairly cheap.
After a while though - I realized that I loved this unit.
On my desk - it raises the screen of my Laptop almost to eye level while keeping it out of the way. The keyboard is light an responsive. It weighs in at 5 lbs - about half as much as my 15" Compaq and is about 2" wider.
When traveling - the stand and keyboard lock together and are small enough that they fit in my cheap Wall-Mart case. It might be a little heavy - but it works for me.
Now the down side. The front lip prevents anything from being plugged into the front of a laptop. It also prevents the laptop from closing. At present - I have 2 bottle caps sitting between that lip and the front of my 15" Compaq. They give me just enough space to plug in my headset jacks.
Then there are the "Now why did they do that" questions.
The first is Power. The base contains 3 USB jacks and a receiver for the keyboard. All of which could have been powered directly from the USB. Instead - we have an extra AC power plug with a small transformer to power it. Further - the transformer / power plug is a unique detachable design. That is great until you loose the power plug part - which is very easy to do.
The second is the receiver they built into it. It is only handles the keyboard. So you will still need to plug in a receiver for your mouse.
Logitech could have given this product a little more thought - and provided a lot of options for it. A Speaker-Mike jacks option - you name it - they didn't think of it.
At any rate - after 6 months - the transformer for the Alto died. That made the keyboard's receiver and those extra USB ports useless. 6 more pounds in the trash?
Not quite. The stand is still functional. A little digging produced an old bulky receiver from a Mouse / Keyboard unit - it works quite well with the keyboard.
Notebook StandOctober 15, 2008 I was looking for a wireless notebook stand and got a bonus with the keyboard. It is an awesome product, holding the notebook at a nice angle so you can use it as a monitor, and I like my keyboard a distance from the screen. Plus with the flexibility of being able to unplug it and use the notebook anywhere in the house or outside. Since I already had a Logitech mouse (that's why I selected this stand...QAULITY) more flexibility of no cords. What a way to go! The price was great! I liked it so much that I had a friend buy one two days later...and she loves it too. So don't wait, buy it! Easy to set up. Also nice to have no cords like you do with a desktop!
great giftSeptember 27, 2008 I got this as a gift for my boyfrind and he LOVES it. He uses it all the time and says it is perfect with the separate keyboard.
Where's the Mouse?September 25, 2008 This is a pretty nice product, for what it does. You get a notebook stand with an integrated 3-port USB hub, and a decent keyboard.
The keyboard is a standard business-type affair with no fancy keys other than volume controls and a calculator key, which is--conveniently--right above the number keypad. It's got a sturdy one-piece tilt adjustment on the bottom.
The stand is convenient for placing your notebook screen at a more viewable angle and/or next to a 2nd external monitor. For my computer, the stand was not adjustable enough to give me an optimum viewing angle, so I had to put a "riser" beneath the front of the stand to allow a good viewing angle on the notebook screen.
It's Logitech, so it's well made as has been every other product I've ever used. It's puzzling, however, that the package does not include a wireless mouse, considering that nearly every other wireless keyboard package they sell includes a mouse. It's not a huge deal, but it would've been nice to eliminate the USB dongle for the mouse.
